The following is an excerpt from a statement prepared by Building a Better Brighton for publication in the Brighton Standard Blade.

Building a Better Brighton Endorses New Changes in Council

Building a Better Brighton (BBB) is a Political Committee that was established in January of this year to address the concerns of so many citizens in relation to the uncharacteristic behavior of our current City Council and the inappropriate and unprofessionalism of several members specifically.  The BBB is comprised of current and past community leaders from within the City, the County and the State of Colorado as well as concerned citizens.  The BBB has been meeting bi-weekly to address the needs of the City and to determine whom the best candidates would be to run for the City Council after the November 2021 Elections.  In that regard, the BBB has recruited new candidates to interview and also invited those that were intended to run for re-election to meet with the Committee.  Evidently, we have been successful in our endeavors given that three out of four Ward seats up for election are unopposed.  The BBB after interviewing the candidates has chosen to endorse Norman Brown as Councilmember in Ward I.  Additionally, the BBB has moved to endorse the current counselor in Ward II, Ann Taddeo, running unopposed, former Mayor Jan Pawlowski has received the endorsement of the BBB and is also running unopposed in Ward III and Peter Padilla in Ward IV has received the endorsement of the BBB and is also running unopposed.  In the Mayoral race the BBB has moved to endorse Laurie Maier.

In deciding who to endorse, the Committee took seriously many factors that are absent in the current Council.  For instance, throughout the interview process a recurring theme that surfaced many times was in regard to the acquisition of Water for the City which undoubtedly is a significant resource to have and a commodity that is lacking Statewide.  So, the Committee was understandably shocked to have learned that the City of Brighton is significantly lacking in securing future water resources compared to our neighboring communities.   Additionally, the $70,000,000 Water Hoax of last year did not inspire a lot of confidence in City staff and only led to delays in getting earmarked water projects started.

Further, the $106,000 that was expended on obtaining a forensic study of the City finances going back 10 years was not only unreasonable, but was conducted without merit and was unnecessary, so, it comes as no surprise that the City finances were in impeccable order.  However, over $100,000 was expended needlessly during a time when citizens are finding their tax liabilities difficult to afford.

The Committee felt that we are lacking in so many areas that endorsing those who have proven leadership abilities need to be in key positions in order to move the City of Brighton forward if we are to survive the future.

The Building a Better Brighton is resolute in its determination to make changes to the Brighton City Council after the November 2021 Election and we need everyone to support the candidates that we have endorsed for you, the citizens of Brighton.  We have deserved better leadership for a long time and with your help and support we will now have it.  Please visit the buildingabetterbrighton.com website for more information about the candidates and why they received the endorsement of the BBB.  We are confident we have the best candidates in place, qualified to lead Brighton into the future.
