Why We Endorse Jan

In deciding who to endorse for the November 2021 election, we spoke with candidates to see who has the values we know every good leader needs and who has the track record to deliver results for our community. We specifically looked for those characteristics that we believe are lacking in current Brighton leadership.

Through our conversations with Jan, we are confident she is the best choice for Ward 3 councilmember. We proudly endorse Jan Pawlowski’s candidacy.

 Candidate Highlights

  • Jan’s deep, institutional knowledge of the City’s workings
  • Jan’s strong, family ties to Brighton
  • Jan’s a worker! Always willing to take on tasks and completes them on time.

“WHAT IS A KEY ISSUE OF YOUR CAMPAIGN?”

“The need to bring back Pride to our City. As I collected signatures, so many are unhappy with the condition of many of your main streets, the poor condition of the trees, (one only has to pay attention when driving to see how many need to be trimmed or removed and could become a hazard), the city not keeping up with weeds that are located on city right of ways, etc.”

Candidate Q&A:

How can we ensure Brighton has adequate water supplies and the infrastructure to support it?

This is too big for one person, it requires experts and the collaboration of surrounding cities, all in the same fix.

What would you do on Council to address our local and regional transportation needs?

We need to get, once again, several surrounding cities together and hit RTD for not following the mandates set forth in 2004, when we first passed Fastracks.

What are your thoughts on Brighton's growth? How do we ensure housing that meets all levels of income?

First, we need to put out to area builders the need to provide a balanced housing plan. Our senior needs are also being overlooked.

What are your thoughts on allowing medical and recreational marijuana dispensaries to open in Brighton? If allowed by voters this November, how should the tax revenue be spent to benefit all residents?

If it passes, there will be considerable tax income for the city. This is very important, when communities surrounding us are already accepting dispensaries. The Council needs to gather valuable input from residents, or perhaps use a survey on what they feel is the best way to use the taxes.

As a council member how will you seek to improve the quality of life for our community?

I’ve been there and done that. I support all aspects of quality of life–a vibrant downtown, opportunities for arts and cultural events and a quality education system. We need another recreation center, and we passed a non-retiring tax to help to do just that.

Many younger families are moving into our city. How will you try to involve all ages in the events/boards/commissions of the community?

Let’s use social media to reach out and encourage city residents that it is important they get INVOLVED!
