“WHAT IS YOUR VISION FOR THE CITY?”
“I have lived in Brighton for 10 years. I love its diversity, arts, hometown
feel, and I would continue to promote those characteristics. To accomplish that vision, our City Council needs, by example, to open minds and hearts with tolerance, communication and understanding of the community.”
Candidate Q&A:
Why do you want to serve on City Council?
I want to get more involved with the city I love. I believe bad things happen when good people do nothing.
I have lived in Brighton for 10 years. I love its diversity, arts, hometown feel, and I would continue to promote those characteristics. To accomplish that vision, our City Council needs, by example, to open minds and hearts with tolerance, communication and understanding of the community.
My goal is to bring an open mind, facts, and common sense to the mix. I don’t have answers, rather honest and open communications, integrity, and vision. Together we can do what is best for Brighton’s future.
How can we ensure Brighton has adequate water supplies and the infrastructure to support it?
Water is life. I believe that the rate of growth should not out pace the infrastructure and water supply of the city. There is a big talk about Metropolitan Districts. The focus is about money, I would like to focus on quality of life. I know Brighton will continue to grow, but at what pace and cost to sustainability. The city council needs to keep their eye on the big picture. It’s not about money, money, money. It’s about Brighton, Brighton, Brighton.
What would you do on Council to address our local and regional transportation needs?
Brighton has recently updated its transportation plan. I am on the Bike Brighton subcommittee, and we are currently working with that on a City of Brighton Bicycle Master Plan. It focuses on pedestrian and bicycle transportation.
On council I would continue to raise awareness that growth requires a balance of transportation and infrastructure. We do not want to be so congested in traffic that people are irritated getting around town.
What are your thoughts on Brighton's growth? How do we ensure housing that meets all levels of income?
Not everyone can live in a $400,000 house. Contractors love to sell $400,000 houses. It’s the city council’s job to have policies in place to ensure a balance is made. A percentage of affordable houses can be incorporated into our city planning. Contractors can build both.
What are your thoughts on allowing medical and recreational marijuana dispensaries to open in Brighton? If allowed by voters this November, how should the tax revenue be spent to benefit all residents?
If it passes, I would like to see that money put into Brighton’s infrastructure, streets, sewers, water treatment improvements.
As a council member how will you seek to improve the quality of life for our community?
Brighton has a rich diverse culture, and I would like to continue our small-town feel. Continue to celebrate our Historic Downtown making it more vibrant with gateway art and more frequent events welcoming people to our city.
Many younger families are moving into our city. How will you try to involve all ages in the events/boards/commissions of the community?
Our society is changing. Technology and social platforms have in many ways made us more isolated. My grandkids still like to get out and be active. One of the best things I like about Brighton are our social gatherings and events. It is our job to provide as many gathering opportunities as we can by recruiting more volunteers to support outdoor events and activities.
